Strobe lighting fills the Barras and illuminates the arched star covered ceiling and the cheering and screaming becomes deafening….this marks the arrival on stage of electronicore band Asking Alexandria, this was the second night of a double hit on Glasgow by the band and they looked well up for another night of good old rock’n’roll as they put it so eloquently in a guttural prime audial roar by lead singer Danny Worsnop.
Asking Alexandria are an English metalcore band from York, North Yorkshire. It was founded in 2008 when Ben Bruce contacted his old companions upon returning to the UK after residing in Dubai. The current line-up of Asking Alexandria consists of Ben Bruce (lead guitar), Danny Worsnop (vocals), Cameron Liddell (rhythm guitar), Sam Bettley (bass guitar) and James Cassells (drums).
Worsnop drapes himself over a saltire draped mike stand whilst Bruce sings into one draped in various pieces of ladies under garments!!!! As they tear into the opener ‘Don’t Pray For Me’ the throaty roar from Worsnop offset by the melodic Bruce vocal…very powerful…very tight.
Mid set Worsnop and Bruce decide to stray from the set and have a wee jam to themselves which seems to go down a treat with the fans then back to the hard stuff with ‘A Prophecy’….more throaty guttural vocal!! Asking Alexandria conclude the set with ‘The Final Episode (Lets Change The Channel) before returning to an encore from a slightly diminishing crowd (bedtime for a lot of them!).
An impressive gig and considering two nights in a row a very well attended one from a superb band… a bit like Pendulum except with balls!!
Here are the full tour dates for Asking Alexandria for the rest 2014..
Check these guys out live if you get the chance – you’ll be very impressed.
