Money, for those of you who are unfamiliar with this band, are a Manchester four piece comprising Jamie Lee, Scott Beaman, Will Byron and Charlie Cocksedge. Their debut album, Shadow of Heaven, 5 years in the making, is well worth the wait. From the opening song, So Long (God is Dead) to the closer Black, this listener was completely engaged from start to finish.
There are several stand-out tracks one of which is for me an album highlight, is Letter to Yesterday, a slow burn epic using sparse but simple instrumentation with the continuous bass throughout, all held together by Jamie’s superb vocals, drawing the listener in, bringing you willingly into his world. Goodnight London is another fabulous tune, a slow burner, edging in at just over seven minutes, is emotional, ambient and uplifting-words that you could use to describe this album in it’s entirety. Hold Me Forever is absolutely glorious and beautiful balladry, song writing at the highest level.
For fans of bands such as Wild Beasts and Bon Iver, this is a must listen. It’ll be very interesting to see what some next for this exciting new, indie band. Highly Recommended.
