Los Angeles group Kan Wakan make their debut appearance on UK shores this May as they launch their new EP Midnight Moon.
Formed in 2012, Kan Wakan are the brainchild of Bulgarian born composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Gueorgui I. Linev. Originally intended as an instrumental sound inspired by Linev’s love of classical minimalism, the ever-evolving outfit soon expanded, perfecting a sound as unique as it is fresh.
Midnight Moon is an ornate and enveloping amalgam of psychedelic soul, post rock and alternative Americana. It has been described as carrying the classical stylings of the 60s soundtrack in terms of rhythm and flow and is summed up perfectly by the EP’s debut offering, Like I Need You.
The track’s almost regimental drum-based intro subsides to give way to the beautifully balanced and soulful female vocal. It’s a rich blend of dreamy tones and orchestral power which flows effortlessly, reaching crescendo without you realising. It’s not only catchy, but addictive.
Kan Wakan kick-off their month long UK tour on May 2nd, in the meantime Midnight Moon is available on Virgin EMI right now.
