Any good DJ should be able to play anything. But it takes a truly great one (or two) to play everything. 2 MANY DJ’S must truly be great DJ’s. Building on a bed of early-’00s electro, the Belgian Dewaeles brothers’ sets traverse pop history, from the Velvets to Dolly Parton, Skee-Lo to the Breeders and remain instant party-starter s. From politically incorrect prog-rock to funky R&B, from trendy hiptrop to banging German techno: if it gets a botty going, 2 Many DJ’s have it in their record collection.
LA four-piece WARPAINT return to Dublin following the January release of their new self-titled album, the follow-up for their critically acclaimed debut “The Fool” (2010). The most important element of the band’s second, album, “Warpaint”, is space. The hauntingly lovely sounds that comprise its 12 songs are punctuated by a distinct absence of sound, one that elevates the band’s music to a new place of depth and emotional poignancy. For the Los Angeles rock band crafting a second album offered an opportunity to expand the ethereal, hypnotic songs on their 2010 debut, and to mirror their extensive live experience on a recording while allowing for the inclusion of more room. ‘Warpaint’ was co-produced by Warpaint and Flood (PJ Harvey, Sigur Ros, New Order, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Foals).
TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS makes music at the central point between pop, electro, house and melodic, tuff rave – and his debut album ‘Trouble’ is just more proof that TEED’s Orlando Higginbottom is one of the most fascinating, brilliant and musically kaleidoscopic artists in the world right now. And he’s about to stomp all over Forbidden Fruit this June Bank Holiday!
PUBLIC ENEMY, American hip hop icons fronted by Chuck D, Flavor Flav and DJ Lord will be performing their politically-charged back catalogue. The band were recently announced as inductees for the 2013 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame making them the fourth hip-hop act to be inducted. Widely regarded as one of the world’s most influential acts of the last 30 years, their live show cuts no corners and remains a hugely moving experience.
Gothenburg’s LITTLE DRAGON has steadily grown from being the biggest underground secret to international acclaim after three successful albums and touring all over the world. Their energetic live set and unique recording process has made fans out of some of the biggest names in music including Pharrell Williams, Questlove, and OutKast, and of course Damon Albarn with whom they collaborated on Gorillaz’ last album. Little Dragon’s release their fourth album, Nabuma Rubberband on May 9th, the follow up to 2011’s critically acclaimed Ritual Union.
GOLD PANDA started writing beats and collaborating only a few years ago, beginning a journey that ultimately reached at the release of his debut album Lucky Shiner. The record was released to huge critical acclaim, culminating in the Guardian First Album award. Last year he released the Trust EP. His debut Forbidden Fruit show is bound to be a highlight for many.
Austrian duo KLANGKARUSSELL lit up the charts in late 2013 with their massive hit Sonnentanz (Sun Don’t Shine), capturing the feeling of an endless summer. The track’s massive success took them by surprise. Having first uploaded it in 2011 ith little fanfare, without any promotion the song suddenly took off and accumulated millions of views through the power of online “word of mouth” alone. This led to the single being released as a properly in 2013, when it reached top 10 in 6 different countries. They bring their full LIVE show to Ireland for the first time with the Forbidden Fruit performance, having debuted it at Eurosonic to rave reviews. Perfect for a summer’s day!
Following a superb year in ’13 in which the southern soulster made his TV debut on The Late Late Show and opened for at the Cork Jazz Festival for Chic, with Nile Rodgers describing him as ‘our number 1 favourite act in Ireland’; BRIAN DEADY is currently working on a new album due for release this year, and touring a solo show playing a mix of new and old material ,and from the famed ‘Doo Wop Series’
Plus many more still to be announced in the coming weeks.
Belinda Kelly of Bulmers said, “Bulmers is once again helping to kick start the summer with the first urban festival of the season with a jam-packed weekend of music, comedy and fine food. Everyone will remember the great vibe of Forbidden Fruit’s previous three editions, and we’re delighted the festival has secured another top quality bill of diverse music. The June Bank Holiday weekend can’t get here soon enough!”
