With the imminent release of their forth studio album The Maccabees are playing in their words “a handful of intimate dates” and the O2 ABC in Glasgow was lucky enough to be one of the venues….They were last in Glasgow supporting Kasabian at the massive Hydro where as front man Orlando Weeks explains they didn’t enjoy it too much…noo kiddin! They didn’t look to happy as far as I remember!!
Tonight the band were headlining with their own audience and more than a little pleased to have a crowd on their side..singing every word to every song…even the new ones!! The enjoyment of the occasion was plain to see on guitarist Felix White’s face in the form of a huge smile that was there all night.
Back enjoying their music again with new songs ‘Kamakura’, ‘WW1 Portraits’ and the excellent new single ‘Marks To Prove It’ all songs going down extremely well with the crowd…. personally I think the new songs are much stronger than a lot of the old stuff. The band have are obviously reinvigorated and give excellent performances of the old favourites ‘Wall of Arms’, ‘Precious Time’, ‘Latchmere’ and keeping the magnificent ‘Pelican’ right to the last…
For me a surprisingly good gig but I maybe unfairly judging them on the Hydro performance…Excellent stuff with the new material sounding very good.
