2550 punters crammed into the Glasgow O2 Academy most of them female teenagers squeezing to the front to get closer to the phenomenon that is The 1975…seems like these guys have came from nowhere to perch themselves at the top of the UK album charts with their self titled album The 1975 but these guys will beg to differ…. Over the last two years they have toured continuously playing their fair share of small venues and honing their playing skills.

The atmosphere in the venue is tangible and thick with expectation of thousands of teenage hearts so much so that when opening act Wolf Alice take to the stage the screams were deafening!! Not that Wolf Alice didn’t deserve the adoration as they were superb..

When The 1975 did eventually appear the noise was deafening, opening with the self titled track The 1975 singer Matthew Heally (son of actors Denise Welch and Tim Heally) appears out of the smoke to take the applause of the crowd …a somewhat more confident young man than the last time I saw him at The O2 ABC last September.. These guys are on fire and despite their limited material every song was a winner The City, Milk, M.O.N.E.Y. Concluding the set with Menswear before returning after a deafening encore to finish the set and after chants of we want Sex with Sex!!

All goes to prove that hard work pays off and their return visit to Glasgow a massive success….
