Legendary guitarist Steve Hackett has announced his Genesis Extended Tour, featuring a selection of classics to include some of the gems he had to sacrifice on the Award winning Genesis Revisited live shows. With a career and repertoire spanning decades between Genesis and his outstanding solo work, this will be the last opportunity for fans to see Hackett perform a whole set from the seminal prog band’s catalogue.
If Paul Welller is considered The Modfather then surely Steve Hackett must be The Progfather… the original Genesis guitarist BP (before pop) was instrumental in the early innovative works of Genesis when they were at their most progressive stage, from 1970 to 1977 Hackett was involved in six studio albums and seven single….some say their best work.
Tonight Steve Hackett brings his Genesis Extended world tour to the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow for a performance of some of Genesis’s most prolific works with Steve as the lead guitarist , he appeared on many of their biggest songs, including Firth Of Fifth, The Musical Box, Supper’s Ready, The Carpet Crawlers and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway..
Opening with ‘Dance On A Volcano’ form the 1976 album “A Trick Of The Tail’ the scene was set for the rest of the night….the middle aged audience were rooted to their seats with a few where the excitement was too much straining at the bit to get stage front!!! This wasn’t a gig in the normal sense of the word … it was verging on the edge of a classical performance with musician excellence in the form of Steve Hackett on guitar, the most amazing vocals by Nad Sylvian, Nick Beggs (yes him from Kajagoogoo) on bass, Roger King on keyboards, Gary O’Toole on drums and percussion and last but certainly not least Rob Townsend on sax, flute and percussion.
A musical journey full of progressive wizardy conducted by Steve Hackett takes the audience through the years with a set that included ‘Fly On A Windshield’ (sung by Gary O’Toole), ‘Musical Box’, ‘I Know What I Like’ and ‘Los Endos’ during which the audience were permitted to leave their seats and go stage front….
A true epic of spectacular lighting, amazing sound and musical genius a brilliant show for any Steve Hackett and Genesis fan.
