Mogwai make their debut appearance at this years Celtic Connections headlining at the Royal Concert Hall…The Scottish post-rock band, formed in 1995 in Glasgow consists of Stuart Braithwaite (guitar, vocals), John Cummings (guitar, vocals), Barry Burns (guitar, piano, synthesizer, vocals), Dominic Aitchison (bass guitar), and Martin Bulloch (drums). The band typically compose lengthy guitar-based instrumental pieces that feature dynamic contrast, melodic bass guitar lines, and heavy use of distortion and effects.

Judging by the crowd assembled in the fairly large venue Mogwai are still a massive draw in the Scottish music capital and with more photographers in the pit than members of Earth Wind and Fire I was intrigued to see what Mogwai are all about. Not renowned for their wild stage antics Mogwai let their music do the talking, described as post-rock, art-rock and space-rock amongst other things the controlled atmospheric sound accompanied an impressive light show was excellent and very very loud!!
