The kings of cool were in town tonight and everybody who thinks they are somebody were also at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro….one massive mother of a venue full to the exit doors with gallus drunks, can Kasabian shake off their laddish image, probably not…Kasabian are the coolest band in the UK and also the coolest band to follow… The release of their 5th studio album ’48:13’.. the total track time…quite ingenious although some would say lazy, also marks the start of their arena tour…..ten years ago in Glasgow they were playing the 300 capacity venue ‘King Tuts’ oh how things have change for the band from Leicester..

An acoustic start saw band leaders Tom Meighan and Serge Pizzorno at opposites sides of the massive stage…exploding into ‘Bumblebee’ and acres of strobe lighting filled the cavernous Hydro exposing its structural bones. Crowd favorite ‘Shoot The Runner’ has the beer flying and the crowd chanting. The unmistakable opening chords of ‘Underdog’ howl through the massive pa system and the obvious delight of this huge crowd of mental folk.

A bizarre thing happened during the sixties influenced ‘Clouds’, up till now the huge screen has been projected words and times but now it read “London is full of c**nts” which amused the Scottish crowd immensely but the band denied all knowledge blaming a production error…. No matter what it made the press headlines.. This so called blunder was followed by ‘eez-eh’ and from where I was sitting the floor area of in front of me looked like a massive rave. The new album maybe devoid of their trademark chant songs like ‘Clubfoot’, ‘ ‘Vlad The Impaler’, etc but ‘Treat’, ‘Bow’ and of course ‘eez-eh’ do come over extremely well in the live area inducing rave like trance states to the masses of drunk lads. Of course the loudest applause was kept for the oldies…’Empire’, ‘LSF’ and even a cover of Fat Boy Slim’s ‘Praise You’ teamed up with copious amounts of crowd praise, an amazing light show and genuine affection for the Scottish audience for me made for a stunning gig….
