Legendary Brit pop Cast return to Glasgow on the third night of their UK tour ahead of their new as yet untitled album due out in 2015….The band reformed in 2010 to commemorate the ‘All Change’ 15th anniversary perfuming across the UK and America where they gained cult status earlier in their career, for their sixties infused catchy pop guitar hooks that led to so many special hits.
Originally formed in 1992 from the ashes of two of the most legendary and lauded guitar bands of the time, The La’s and Shack, Cast released four albums (three of them top 10), and had ten top 10 singles. The second album also went platinum. During that time, Noel Gallagher described watching the band as “a religious experience”, and at release ‘All Change’ was the highest biggest selling album of all time for Polydor. After the band’s split, Power released three solo albums, and has played intermittently since 2005 with the reformed La’s.
Opening tonight for Cast were Glasgow band ‘Tijuana Bibles’ …a band that have been on the receiving end of some good rumblings from the local Scottish music press which is well deserved judging by their performance tonight. Alan McGee’s new signing ‘John McCullagh and The Escorts were next up sounding more than a little like Messer’s Jake Bugg and co….still they were well received by the now substantial audience.
A fit looking John Power is welcomed onto the stage and the Band open with ‘Time Bomb’ ..already there was a good buzz about the gig, Cast looking on form and up for a good time. ‘Promised Land’ brought back back 90’s memories of legendary Cast gigs and the massive smile on Power’s face told a storey!!! A great set full Cast favourites followed…’Sandstorm’, ‘Fine Time’, ‘Beat Mama’ Walk Away’ and ‘Guiding Star’.
Tonight Cast were on fire and hopefully next 2015 will bring a new album full of great new material…..
