So have the Wombles left the common?… Brixton rockers Alabama 3 release the second installment of their WORLD OF MILITANT BEAT LIBERATING EXECITIONERS series. this one celebrating the female of the species ‘The Wimmin of W.O.M.B.L.E, Vol 2. To support the new release Alabama 3 have embarked on a winter 2014 tour to bring the the love to a venue near you…tonight it was Glasgow’s turn to congregate at the pulpit of the church of Elvis and experience the preaching of the Rev D Wayne Love supported by his archangel Larry Love….let the grove begin.
It never fails to amaze me the eclectic nature of an Alabama 3 audience…young, old, flamboyant, quiet, drunk and sober…all stream into the venue that I’m informed has the largest glitter ball in Europe (useless fact of the day)…providing an excellent support for tonight are Glasgow’s very own ‘The Trongate Rum Riots’ and Edinburgh’s excellent ‘The Holy Ghosts’ warming the crowd up nicely.
‘Opening with Bam Ba Lam (Here Comes Daddy)’ or ‘Black Betty’ and Rev D Wayne begins his sermon… Aurora Dawn has a voice that belongs with the angels but has the moves of the devil!! and uses the full stage to lure the photographers from side to side…Larry Love arrives on stage to massive applause from the audience and the grooving begins in earnest as the band mash up country, rave, rock and dance into their own unique style. New songs from ‘Wimmin of W.O.M.B.L.E ..’Switch Back Stiletto’ and ‘You Are The One’ demonstrate a new direction from Alabama 3…more soulful and directed but mixed in with new versions of ‘Woke Up This Morning’ , Mao Tse Tung Said, and ‘Shoot Me Up’ had the crowd swaying and dancing the whole night..
After the usual encore Alabama 3 return with the soulful ‘Holy Blood’, ‘Power In The Blood’ and concluding with the amazing ”To Sick To Pray’…. A particularly excellent gig from an on form band and a crowd who clearly love everything they do……get down and see them, you wont regret it
